The Horn of Salvation, Jesus Christ

The powerful horned heads of wild ox and rams are a reminder of the strength that we have in Jesus  to live for God and to have victory over our enemies (sin, death, the wicked) by God’s grace.

“But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil.” Psalm 92:10

A Bison is a type of wild ox with horns of strength and power.

The God that made the majestic Bison with the breath of His word is a mighty God. He has the power to judge the earth and save us through His anointed Son, Jesus Christ, the horn of salvation.

“The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.” 1 Samuel 2:10b

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us” Luke 1:68-69a

The great battle between God and Satan was won by Jesus (offspring of the woman).

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15

“through death he [Jesus] might destroy the one who has the power of death that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” Hebrews 2:14b-15

A ram’s horn is a symbol of power, sacrificial offering and victory.

God provided a ram for Abraham to use in the place of his son Issac for an offering at Mount Moriah. The ram represented Jesus Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice for our sins.

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of the place, “The LORD will provide” Genesis 22:13-14

Furthermore, through faith in His resurrected Son, God grants to us

“that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.” Luke 1: 73-75

and

“to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God” Luke 1:77-78

A ram’s horn is blown to proclaim God’s victory through Christ Jesus over sin and death and to strength in Jesus to do good works (click to hear). The voice of an archangel and the sound of the trumpet of God will be heard when Jesus returns again.

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

When we see a male Bison and Big Horn sheep in the wild, reflect on Jesus sacrifice, power, victory over death and awaken to serve Him without fear forever.

Jesus has all power to judge the earth. He is also tender and merciful to those who repent of their sins and trust in  Jesus. Through Jesus, God is our refuge. Hold fast to His promises.
