Out of the Good Treasure of the Heart

“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45

We are blessed with Colorado Columbine flowers at our home. The unopened flower bud looks like a heart to me with the five long spurs sticking out the top with the appearance of veins and arteries. When the bud opens, the blue and white flowers extends golden anthers outward at the ends of light green filaments – a powerful scene! The gold anthers seem to illustrate good treasure (the truth of God’s word) coming out of the heart to give glory to God.

Jesus Christ in our heart and the working of the Holy Spirit enable us to know and share the truth about God.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

Columbine flowers are a reminder to draw near to God so that life-giving treasures flow out of the heart.

“Whoever believes in me [Jesus], as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38

  1. Beautiful photos. Columbine is one of my favorite flowers–because they are one of hummingbirds’ favorite flowers!
