The voice of the Lord
God gives us a hint of His power as he shakes the wilderness with fires and microbursts of wind. These acts proclaim the power and majesty of His voice. Only through the gift of the Almighty and living God is it possible for His people to be strong and have peace in their heart.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars ...
The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness ...
and strips the forests bare,
and in his temple all cry, “Glory!” ...
May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!Psalm 29: 4-5, 7-9, 11
What seemed impossible was possible
The verses of Psalm 29 were witnessed in 2020 as three of the largest forest fires in the history of Colorado burned. There were also microbursts of hurricane-force winds during the year. I saw the results of one of them that leveled the forest East of James Peak. What you see in the picture below is the forest stripped bare! Huge trees completely leveled and another clump of trees in the foreground showing the contrast. The sight was breath-taking, as I looked down from the heights of Jame Peak.
A reminder of God's power to save us through Jesus
Why did God’s shake the wilderness in unprecedented ways in the summer of 2020? It may have been to remind us of His Sovereign power as we were about to enter the election season and all the associated uncertainties of the New Year. We need a reminder of God’s power when it seems that ungodly people are in control. We need a reminder when it seems impossible for people and the nation to repent and embrace the truth/Jesus/Word. Continue to pray with confidence in God’s promise that Jesus has all authority and is with us to the end of the age.
"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'"
