God calls us to holiness and godliness. His Majesty compels us to take the call seriously. Godliness is more valuable than bodily health. This is especially true knowing that the day of God is coming. May He find us set apart from the world (holy) and consecrated to Him (godly), laying up treasures for heaven.
Be holy, for I am holy
Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16
Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God,
2 Peter 3:11-12
As Christians, we were made pure before God in Jesus, and we also pursue godliness and holiness as we use our gifts to do good works. This pursuit is done with prayerful discipline in the power of the Holy Spirit. Seeking to renew our minds, we meditate on God’s Word, and on the wonders that He is doing.
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world … Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
John 17:14. 17
These disciplines help us to humbly appreciate that the insights, and wisdom, and knowledge of God that we gain are all by God’s mercy and grace.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful.
1 Peter 5:6-8
Recognizing our imperfections, we pursue godliness. Consider the transformation of a seed to a plant, buds, and unfolded flowers. The seed cannot fulfill its purposes by only sprouting. So it is for us. It is not enough to experience the new birth. Alive unto God, we pursue godliness; endeavoring to pray, hear the Word preached, and participate in the sacraments.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Acts 2:42
God is for us, so let us plan good works and submit our time to God! He establishes our steps and our trust in Him grows. He teaches us, giving all that we need for godliness.
It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me
John 6:45
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness
2 Peter 1:3
So let us through off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance the race marked out for us (Hebrews 12:1).
As we experience everlasting fruit (e.g., joy, peace, self-control) we can expect to be more and more overcome with thanksgiving and express colorful praises to God that He prepared us to do for His glory.
I enjoy this site – its so usefull and helpfull.
Thank you for your encouragement.
