Lida and I saw fields exulting God in the mountains near Crested Butte and Aspen, Colorado.
I wondered, why are there so many wildflowers in these places? Sure, in history rocks moved, melted and moved again, crushed into water-holding soils rich in minerals, and illuminated with sunshine. However, the most satisfying answers were found in the Bible. There I learned that:
God made all things and preserves them. The awe-inspiring mountains are His!
“You are the LORD, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.” Nehemiah 9:6
God raised the mountains to their appointed place.
“The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them.” Psalm 104:8
God waters the fields.
“You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field … From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.” Psalm 104:10, 13
God explained why mountain scenes are glorious. God is Holy and so the earth He made is filled with His glory, including the mountains to exult Him. Sin entered that world when Adam disobeyed God, so all is not well. However, all of creation rejoices because the Lord Jesus is coming again to judge the earth. That is good, because the fallen world will be restored to a place where righteousness dwells. There is hope.
“Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.” Psalm 96:11-12
“Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds!” Psalm 148: 7-10
God tells us to respond with thanksgiving to Him.
“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” Psalm 95:1-6
It is with thanksgiving and praise to God that I share a witness to exulting fields.
