All Creation Waits on God: Goodness

Creation waits on God and His care proclaims His goodness.

“You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Besides them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work…The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly…In them the birds build their nests…The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.” Psalm 104:10-13, 16-18

The wild goats of the mountains, such as the Ibex (scroll down and click), Mountain Goat, and related Dall and Big Horn Sheep are gifted by God to be at home in the high mountains. Not only did He give them the genetic potential to give Him glory in the mountains, but also sustains them in His goodness as He watches over every detail of their existence.

“Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you observe the calving of the does? Can you number the months that they fulfill, and do you know the time when they give birth, when they crouch, bring forth their offspring, and are delivered of their young? Their young ones become strong; they grow up in the open; they go out and do not return to them.” Job 39:1-4

Do you get a sense of hope for goodness from these illustrations in creation? How much more will God sustain those He created in His own image for His glory? By His grace he “acts for those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4b).

Agur describes Rock badgers in Proverbs 30:26 as “a people not mighty” (or “feeble folk” NKJV), yet the Lord blesses them homes in rock fortresses. These animals are a picture of God’s goodness to us in Jesus, the rock.

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:2-3

Cultivated plants for food also point to God’s spiritual blessings to us in Jesus Christ. Just as light from the sun helps plants to grow, and food and water nourishes the physical body, Christ is the living water, living bread, and light to the soul

“Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever.’ ” John 4:13-14

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’ ” John 6:35

“Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ ” John 8:12

God’s salvation feeds our souls with the type of satisfaction experienced in the consumption of rich food. Sing for joy!

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you…My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips…for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.” (Psalm 63:3,5,7)

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” (Psalm 107:9)

Blackberry Cobbler Was Wonderfully Good, a Hint of God's Goodness to Us in Christ. Psalm 63:5

Merely fellowship with God, the source of goodness is all sufficient.

“Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!” (Psalm 34:9)

Praise God for His steadfast love and proclaim his goodness/steadfast love/excellencies for calling us to know Him! Wait for the LORD!

“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!” (Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31)

“… a people of his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9b

“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14
