All Creation Waits on God: Dependence

Post by guest author and photographer Kayla White

Waiting on God, Part 1. Dependence. A recent season of difficult trials had a recurring theme of waiting on God (see the previous post) .  I began to explore what it means and discovered that creation reveals ways in which we wait on Him.  May this first in a series of posts on the topic encourage you and bless your walk with God.

We depend on God for everything including our very being, our home, our food, our time on earth, our salvation, and grace.

“For ‘in him we live and move and have our being’ ” Acts 17:28

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awakes in vain.” Psalm 127:1

“You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth” Psalm 104:14

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?” Luke 12:25-26

“So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.” Romans 9:16

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

We should voice our requests to God. One of the purposes of the young lion’s roar according to God is to ask God for prey. Let us note the example and encourage young people to show our dependence on God in prayer and songs of praise.

“The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God.” Psalm 104:21

Waiting on God acknowledges our dependence upon Him and gives Him glory. Those who depend upon God will be blessed.

“‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Submit yourselves therefore to God,” James 4:6-7; see also 2 Chronicles 16:9

God will not bless those who trust in the arm of the flesh, whether it’s their own or another creature’s:

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land’ ” Jeremiah 17:5-6; also see Isaiah 31:1

Unceasing and entire dependence upon God. Andrew Murray, in his book Waiting on God, said,

“…Waiting on God, unceasing and entire dependence upon Him, is, in heaven and earth, the one only true religion, the one unalterable and all-comprehensive expression for the true relationship to the ever-blessed One in whom we live.”

God created plants for man to cultivate like yellow summer squash for food. Psalm 104
