A Delight that Yields Everlasting Fruit

I delight that my son Nathanael likes to read and sing Psalm 1. Through this Psalm, we can surely know this truth:

“Blessed is the man … [whose] delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:3

A thriving tree that bears fruit is a beautiful sight. God made them to illustrate His goodness. The CreationSpeech of God is to draw near to Him through His word day and night, resulting in blessings like that of a healthy fruit tree. Through the Holy Spirit, our

“fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).

These attributes are more desirable than gold. More beneficial than being right. More alluring than knowing the latest about fame, fashions, football, and functional food. Lord, help our nation to see your goodness, seek to know you through your word, and see your handiwork in creation. Help us to prosper in doing Christ’s work on earth through His grace. Help us to love our neighbor.

Blessed is the man who delights in the law of the LORD

Delighting in God’s law, testimony, commandments, precepts, and rules, yields everlasting fruit. A month ago I was struck by Psalm 19:7-9. This scripture highlights various descriptions and benefits of the Bible when it is read with a humble spirit that fears the Lord who made all things. More amazing fruits from meditating on God’s word:

Revival of the soul, surety, wisdom, righteousness, heartfelt rejoicing, purity, enlightened eyes, everlasting endurance, and truth, warnings, and great reward.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalm 19:7-9

Wow! These are benefits that I seek for the CreationSpeech ministry. That is why there is a focus on Gods’ word as I meditate on His wondrous works. Next time see a fruitful apple tree, I will be inspired by its illustration of a fruitful life in Christ. Dear God, help us to proclaim these wonders to the next generation.

A sign on their door says “In a time when things keep changing every day, it sure is nice to have one place that stays the same.” The ultimate source of this comfort is the unchanging God of the Bible including His son Jesus.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
