Broad-Tailed Humingbird on Pea Blossom Collecting Nectar for Chick

The Birds Will Tell You

“But ask the … birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; … In his [the Lord’s] hand is the life of every living thing” Job 12:7, 10a

This post is a follow-up on a previous one about a Broad-Tailed hummingbird that was building a nest in our front yard. The bird completed the nest and added lichen to the outside as camouflage! A chick was born, and the mother bird has been feeding it and protecting it. How does the mother bird get enough flower nectar (don’t miss the highlighted link to video illustrating the process) for mom and a growing chick?

Below the hummingbird is hovering as it patrols and chase other birds away from the area including a male.

The chick tests its wings in the nest. Watch the video below with low sound to eliminate the noise of the wind.

Notice the broad-tail in this photo of a female Broad-Tailed hummingbird gathering nectar with its amazing ability to fly in place.

Later the mother bird will be teaching the chick to find food.

How is all of this possible (nesting, hatching, feeding, protecting, teaching)?

“the hand of the LORD has done this” (Job 12:9).

“With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding.” Job 12:13
