“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.” Proverbs 11:28
I let lettuce go to seed last fall. This Spring, lettuce came up and flourished across the garden. I call it “God’s greens.” All I provided was available ground covered lightly with wood chips to retain moisture. For several weeks now we have been sharing lettuce and salads with friends. One of the blessings of home-grown lettuce is that it keeps coming back after numerous cuttings. The cycle of growth, cutting, and growth of garden lettuce illustrate a way the righteous flourish.
“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” 2 Corinthians 8:10
Trials of the Christian life test and strengthen our faith enabling our growth by the grace of God.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3
This person is one who’s
“delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1b.
The law (torah) of the Lord “in the general sense refers to any instruction flowing from the revelation of God,” such as His word in the Bible. Frequently I ask our youngest son Nathanael about the time of day. Is it day time? Then it is time to meditate on God’s word. Is it night time? Then it is time to meditate on God’s word. One flourishes by living according to the word of God, by walking in His ways.
“Lettuce” be thankful and sing praises to God for His goodness.
“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!” Psalm 95:2

This is so strengthening and reassuring. I think I’ll name my children Greenleaf because I will teach them to reflect on this. For they shall flourish by God’s Grace.
Abigail, Thank you for sharing the encouragement that you received from the illustration and God’s word. I like the name, Greenleaf.
I pay a quick visit daily some blogs and blogs to read content, except this weblog offers quality based writing.
Thanks you for your comment!
Praise God for His goodness.
