God Preserves Snout Butterfly

God preserves His creation, knowing at the time the He made creeping things (Genesis 1:24), that sin would enter the world later through Adam (Genesis 3). He knew that birds would seek to eat butterflies and chrysalises would need to survive a worldwide flood (Genesis 6). So by God’s mercy He provided an elongated mouth part for snout butterflies and behavioral instincts to look like a dead leaf attached to a branch.

The mouth parts of snout butterflies today look like that of fossilized species (artist version of Prolibythea vagabunda, see images 6 & 8 on page 474). This observation illustrates that butterflies survived the worldwide flood in Noah’s time (which included volcanoes and the fine ash believed to bury the delicate butterfly). I expect during the flood that chrysalises floated on the water allowing the butterflies to hatch on warm ground. The progression of life would be like Spring and Summer today when plants and leaves appear first, followed by butterflies which emerge at a warmer temperature. Fossilized Hackberry (Celtis sp.) leaves (gov’t photo, view during off hours), required for snout butterfly larva, were found in the same location (Florissant, Colorado) as the fossilized butterfly.
