Black Swallowtail Nipped by Birds

In Adam All Die. Christ Restores All Things.

All is not well. Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:17-19) brought death and suffering to man and animals. Creatures prey on each other, are destructive, and live for only a short time.

God showed His mercy to insects by protecting them with behaviors and artistic patterns and chemical weapons (e.g., flee on approach, camouflage, bright warning colors, chemical odors, and stings). The tails of swallowtail butterflies cause birds to confuse the hind wings of the butterflies as the head, so only the tails are nipped, allowing the butterfly to live another day.

God showed His love to His people by sending His only Son to save them from their sins. He protects and strengthens them against the world, the flesh and the devil with Jesus (belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, sword of the Spirit, the helmet of hope) Ephesians 6:10-11. Believers are alive in Jesus now and also participate in His suffering on the path to sharing in His glory (1 Peter 4:13).

Jesus has all authority (Matthew 28:18) and will reign until all His enemies are put under His feet (1 Corinthians 15:25). So Jesus is restoring all things and He will return and fully restore all things.

“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.” Acts 3:19-21

Our hope is in the living resurrected Jesus (1 Peter 1:3) and on the grace that will be brought when Jesus returns (1 Peter 1:13) and His people are fully conformed to His image (Romans 8:29). The creation itself “will be set free from its bondage to corruption.” Romans 8:21

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth … And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.'” Revelation 21:1-4

Butterfly wings on ground after bird ate bodies. In Adam, all die. We are alive in Jesus who restores all things.
